The Downtown Development Authority has announced that nine projects have been awarded funding through the Downtown Thomson Grant program, an initiative launched in December to support revitalization efforts in downtown Thomson. The program is part of a broader effort to breathe new life into the district, encouraging investment, and economic growth.

“This grant is about building momentum downtown, showing visible progress, and letting people know that their hard work, vision, and commitment to this community are being recognized and supported,” said James Upchurch, President and CEO of Forward McDuffie. Over the next few months, residents and visitors will see noticeable changes to several buildings as new paint, facades, windows, and awnings enhance the character and viability of downtown. These projects reflect the dedication of business owners and property owners who are committed to seeing Thomson thrive.

By investing in the district’s aesthetics and infrastructure, the initiative aims to foster additional investment and optimism about the areas future. “This grant is just one step,” Upchurch added. “It’s not going to fix every building, but it is another step in the right direction. We have so much potential in downtown Thomson, and in the near future, we will have a thriving downtown once again. The work we’re doing now lays the foundation for sustained growth and revitalization.”

The seed money for this grant program was provided by Georgia Power.
