Revitalizing the Heart of Thomson: A $50,000 Step Forward

12/20/2024

Thomson, GA — The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is inviting the community to join in shaping the future of Downtown Thomson. With $50,000 in funding provided by Georgia Power, the DDA’s newly launched grant program is designed to encourage commercial property and business owners to invest in their spaces and help bring new energy to the heart of the town.

The program offers grants to commercial property owners and tenants who want to enhance their storefronts and create inviting spaces that reflect the unique charm of Thomson. The DDA sees this as more than just a financial initiative—it’s an opportunity to foster collaboration and a shared vision for the future. Applications are available online at www.downtownthomson.com or can be picked up in person at 149 Main Street. Community members are encouraged to apply or even sponsor an application on behalf of a downtown property owner. The application deadline is February 28, 2025. While the $50,000 grant marks an important start, the DDA emphasizes that it’s just the beginning. With plans to secure additional funding and resources, they’re committed to ensuring Downtown Thomson continues to grow and evolve, guided by input from the community.

“Our downtown holds so much history and potential,” said James Upchurch, President of Forward McDuffie. “We’re taking this step together, as a community, to create a downtown where memories are made and neighbors come together.”

The DDA invites everyone to take part in this journey of renewal and possibility. For more information, visit www.downtownthomson.com or stop by the Forward McDuffie office at 149 Main Street. Together, the community can build a downtown that’s not just revitalized but reimagined, a place where the charm of the past meets the promise of tomorrow.
